Understand the classification of lubricating oils

You probably have already filled your car or some machine in your fleet with oils that have nomenclatures like 10W40, 15W30 or 5W40, but do you know what these definitions are about? Visit this link to gain more ideas: how is synthetic oil made

What is lubricating oil for?

All cars, trucks or machines that run today use lubricating oil at least for the engines. The main function of this oil is to prevent wear and friction of the engine parts and to perform the cleaning , so we must always change the oil on the stipulated date, after all, over time the substances generated by the combustion of the engine can damage it.

The oil in your car is responsible for eliminating all the heavy substances that the engine creates during the combustion process, which is why when you make the change, the oil, which comes in transparent, can come out almost brown.

Another function of the oil is the temperature regulation. Two pieces of metal rubbing inside the engine generate a lot of heat, so as the oil softens this contact, it also regulates the temperature while the engine is running.

Nowadays oils also have a category of multi viscosity. This allows the oil to adapt to your vehicle's engine temperature to deliver the best possible performance.

Types of oils

Using the lubricant with the correct specifications for the engine increases the engine's durability and reduces fuel consumption, basic reasons why it is very important to pay attention to the use of the oil indicated by the manufacturer.

Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oil is produced in laboratories using petroleum and other chemical components. The oil and the components that make up the formula go through several tests and modifications until they reach the result for the ideal lubrication of the engine.

It is thanks to the chemical assets that are initially mixed with oil that synthetic oil becomes more uniform and has a longer durability among others. With a more uniform chemical composition, synthetic oil is the most suitable lubricating oil option for the engine. Despite being a more expensive oil, this type better lubricates the vehicle's engine, lasts longer, prevents the formation of sludge and is much more resistant to oxidation.

Semi-synthetic oil

Semi-synthetic oil is created based on basic mineral oils with a very limited mixture of synthetic oils. This is not the best lubricating oil on the market, but it seeks to bring together the best properties found in both mineral and synthetic oil.

Semi-synthetic oil performs better and is considered to be superior to mineral grade oils. As part of its synthetic formula, this type of oil already has a longer durability and has an intermediate price in the market.

Mineral oil

Mineral oil is oil derived solely from petroleum, which today is considered the least suitable option of lubricating oil found on the market.

Despite being the most affordable oil on the market, it is composed of non-uniform molecules and this composition ends up causing some long-term damage to the engine parts.

Mineral oil is an oil that is not naturally good and needs some synthetic additives to improve its quality.
